Silent enemy: Environmetal tobacco smoke

Secondhand smoke, also known as environmental tobacco smoke, is one of the most harmful indoor pollutants. Exposure to environmental tobacco smoke is a worldwide silent cause of mortality and morbidity. Although environmental tobacco smoke had been decreased for 20 years, a lot of people who do not smoke still expose to environmental tobacco smoke at home, work, public places and in vehicles. Environmental tobacco smoke is a risk factor for many important diseases such as lung cancer, chronic obstructive lung disease, asthma, cardiovascular diseases, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, sudden infant death. In this article harmfull effects of environmental tobacco smoke and effects of smokefree environment regulation on environmental tobacco smoke exposure were reviewed.
