Control of breathingGülderen ŞAHİNİstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi Fizyoloji Anabilim Dalı, İstanbul
In all mammalian species, breathing is controlled by a neuronal network within the lowe brainstem. A component known as the ventral respiratory group produces rhytmic activity, which is transmitted to spinal motoneurons to produce a periodic contraction of respiratory muscle. The rhytmic activities of respiratory neurons are modulated by ventilatory reflexes and the changes in PaO2, PaCO2 and H + concentration. Keywords: lung receptors, peripheric and central chemoreceptors, respiratory centers
